Deutsche Telekom with fiber deployment record in 2017

DT continuous investment in fiber optic network expansion in Germany. Numbers are impressive. After successful deployment of 30,000 km of fiber optic cables in each year of 2015 and 2016, just before end of the year company announced about closing 2017 with result of 40,000 km of fiber cables.

“We aren’t only building information superhighways between major metropolises and population centers; our network also extends to the countryside. We are the only company pursuing comprehensive broadband expansion,” says Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom. “Some of our upgrade projects serve tens of thousands of households, while others serve just a handful. For us, every line counts. In Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich, but also in Byhleguhre-Byhlen, Caputh, and Sacka.”

Key statistics for 2017:
– 40,000 km of additional fibers
– 2.5 million of additional households connected through VDSL
– 25,000 installed cabinets
– 1 million new broadband connections

DT fiber optic network in total:
– 455,000 km of cables
– 30 million house holds

It’s hard to believe, but DT plans for 2018 are even more aggressive. Company is planning to reach 60,000 km of new fiber-optic cables deployed in 2018, but at the same time explaining that such approach is only possible with different installation methods.

Such ambitious plans show that DT really think about the future wireless network, cause soon fiber and mobile will together form new architecture of 5G. Old truth says, that there is no mobile without wired and as soon company will upgrade its fixed network as fast we will touch 5G commercial service.
